The name "Clamshell Foundation" was chosen in deference to those on the East End of Long Island who made, and still make a livelihood from the waters of Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.  Clamshells can be found everywhere.
 

With a concept formulated in 1991, the 1st Annual East Hampton Sand Castle Contest, took place on August 26, 1992 at the Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett, NY. We have since taken on other projects such as The Odie Fund, and The Great Bonac Fireworks Show. 
 

In September of 1997 we were approved as a New York State 501c3 Not-For-Profit Corporation under the name of The Clamshell Foundation. The purpose of the corporation, as stated in our charter, is to enrich the lives of others by fostering education in health, cultural, and environmental fields of endeavor.
 

100% of all profits from all projects are donated to the people, programs and projects here in the Town of East Hampton. We are community based and supported and to date, we have now made almost $110,000.00 in local grants.
